I have the fairly widely reported problem with the left Joy Con desyncing even after the latest system update. I figured I'd post the list of steps I took to troubleshoot the problem and give some information about my call with Nintendo. I contacted Nintendo this afternoon and after giving some details (listed below) about the problem, they initiated a repair/replacement for the left Joy Con. Unfortunately, it will take 1 to 2 weeks to ship it off and get the new one in. I called back a few minutes ago and asked if they could do an advanced replacement and they said no but upgraded shipping to expedited.
For the moment, I plan to hold on the the left Joy Con for a few more days before sending it in. Obviously I’m pretty disappointed that the best they will do at this point is offer expedited shipping but at least they seem to be aware of the problem and are willing to replace the part at no cost. As I said, I plan to wait a few days in case there is a patch or they have a blanket offer to those of us who are still having a problem. However, below is description of my problem along with a list of troubleshooting steps that I have tried. If you’re still having problems with the left Joy Con after the software update, I recommend that you try these steps then call Nintendo. Problem:
The left Joy Con is unreliable during play when it is physically disconnected from the Switch. It often desyncs from the console or input will hang temporarily. Using the Calibrate Control Stick menu, I have verified that it is only the left Joy Con that is showing this problem. I cannot reliably play further than 6 to 8 feet from the Switch
I want to make sure it is clear that the right Joy Con has no problems and acts as expected. It doesn’t have connectivity problems till I walk down the hallway away from my living room. There is a clear difference in performance between the two Joy Cons so I do not believe this problem is related to my wireless environment.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Applied the latest system update with the Joy Cons attached.
Rebooted the system three times.
Shutdown the system then turned it on three times.
Unpaired and paired the Joy Cons.
Reviewed the contents of the “Joy-Con Not Responding or Responding Incorrectly When Used Wirelessly” article and implemented its recommendations.
Moved the dock as far away from the TV as the included cables will allow. I also moved it away in a direction that is further away from my wireless router which is located in another room.
Unplugged my other console and turned off its wireless controllers.
Removed my phone from my pocket.
Removed the Switch from the dock and tested in the room furthest away from my wireless router and other wireless devices.
